Hurlers to face a tougher test in Limerick

The Galway hurlers take on Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds this Sunday at 3pm to determine which side finishes second in the division 1B league.

Both teams have already qualified for the quarter-finals against a team from 1A, and Sunday's game will decide which team they will face.

Wexford have already been promoted to Division 1A from 1B for 2018 after their win over Offaly a fortnight ago.

Kerry, Laois and Offaly are still in contention for a quarter-final place from 1B. Kerry face Offaly, while Wexford host Laois at Innovate Wexford Park this Sunday.

Galway's last league game saw them defeat Kerry easily enough by 1-22 to 0-12 and it will be interesting to see what changes, if any, Micháel Donoghue makes from the team which started that game.

The top Galway scorers in that last outing were Joe Canning with nine points (six frees ), Cathal Mannion with 0-5, and Niall Burke and Paul Flaherty chipped in with 0-2 each. Galway's goal was scored by Padraig Brehony.

Sunday's game against the Treaty men will give the Galway hurling supporters and the management team a better indication of where their team is at.

A win would certainly provide a bit of momentum and self-belief going into the league quarter-finals where they could be up against Clare, Waterford or Cork, depending on how results go this weekend.
