Are you looking for inspiring party ideas for your tween? This age can be tricky as some children still want the whole class to attend and others simply want a few of their close friends. And they nearly all want different parties from those their friends have had! Be inspired with our Party Ideas for 8-12 Year Olds (Tweens ).
Sports Party
Head outdoors or to the local park and set up a sports day with three legged races, sack races, egg and spoon races, and a few good old sprint races.
If your garden is a good size you could create an obstacle course with hurdles, a water jump (using a paddling pool ), relays to get objects from one place to another using a spoon or ladle, pressure test to get a ball into a hoop or bucket a balance beam created using a supported plank of wood and a skipping test.
If the weather is a problem, consider hiring a local hall or room at the sports club. Play soccer and other ball games, or games like stuck in the mud, 40/40, Capture the flag, Simon Says etc. If you are not confident about running the games yourself you could ask a coach or older child to help out. Or even enlist the help of a Zumba or dance instructor to give the children a lesson.
A few ideas for Galway include a Power Soccer Party, Astrobay run bubble football, laser tag, archery and sports day parties or Galway Bubble Soccer hire out the equipment needed for 5 aside games. Pure Skill offer party packages for a range of sports.
Activity Party
If you have a smaller group consider taking them to a venue to do an activity or a range of activities. From bowling to watersports or laser tag to horse riding, Galway has a range of venues to choose from.
Providers that I have used for parties include Rusheen Bay Watersports, Eilemental for outdoor adventure, Golden Moments for gorge walking and kayaking, Planet Galway for indoor laser tag and bowling, Leisureland for a swim party, Athenry Heritage Centre for archery and Glengowla Mines for gold panning.
For an at home activity party that you either host yourself of get an entertainer for some good ideas include;
A craft party this could be decoupage, jewellery making, clever clay, pottery painting, lego creations.
A cookery party where you decide on a menu and get the kids to help cook it. Some good items are pizza (buy or make bases and leave out toppings including sweet toppings ), homemade wedges and chicken goujons, milkshakes and smoothies. Biscuits or cupcakes which can then be decorated.
Science party making slime, creating rockets and using kitchen chemistry to wow your audience.
Or how about a movie party? Turn you sitting room into a cinema and show the latest film or an old classic with popcorn and drinks.
A pyjama party is a good alternative to a sleepover for this age group. Have children arrive later in their pjs and leave around 9.30 or 10pm.
A spy party, similar to more adult murder mystery party, you can buy kits or dream up your own mystery to solve.
We hope we have given you a few inspiring ideas to make you the best party host ever!
