Galway women on fire

Galway head to Birr to face Offaly in St Brendan's Park on Sunday (2pm ) looking to continue their positive start to their Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League campaign in division one.

Galway had too much firepower for Clare on Sunday, finishing 1-22 to 0-7 winners in group 2.

The home side were first to fire with two points in Whitegate from Zoe McInerney and Regan Conway. However, despite this slow opening, Galway recovered well to post eight on the trot.

Ailish O’Reilly, who finished with nine points including three from play, and Aoife Donohue, who scored five points from play, were on fire as the westerners led by six at half time.

There was nothing Clare could do to hold Galway in the second half, despite five pointed frees by Chloe Morey.

Noreen Coen and Rebecca Hennelly were among the scorers for Galway, and Ciara Murphy rounded off the demolition with a goal the in the 58th minute to make it an 18-point game at the final whistle.

Limerick were also group two winners with a 0-18 to 0-7 win over Meath.

•Presentation Athenry fell to Loreto Kilkenny in the O’Neill’s All-Ireland Post-Primary Junior A camogie semi-final.

Loretta came away from Gort with a comprehensive win, 5-15 to 3-5 with two of their stars Rachel and Hannah Kelly having lost to St Brigid’s Loughrea in last year’s All-Ireland senior A final loss..

Ladies football

The Galway Ladies, under the guidance of Stephen Glennon, will hope to follow up their impressive 3-13 to 1-13 win over Monaghan last weekend with another victory over Northern opposition this Sunday in Tuam Stadium.

They face Armagh at 2pm in Tuam in round 4 of division one of the National Football League.
