THERE ARE three great questions that philosophers, theologians, mystics, and artists have sought to answer: Who am I? Where have I come from? Where am I going? These are questions Russell Brand is also asking, along with another important ponderable: Where did this baby come from?
Brand became a father in November, when his partner Laura Gallacher gave birth to a daughter called Mabel, and it fatherhood and life's big questions will be tackled in his new show RE:BIRTH, which he will perform in Leisureland, Salthill, on September 26 2018.
"How do we make sense of the madness of our lives once we become parents?" Brand said. "What am I going to tell my daughter about conformity and responsibility? What happens if she grows up to be like me or, worse, date someone like me?"
As well as this, the show will also look at the matrix of modern media, politics, sex, and death. The show has already enjoyed sold-out previews in Britain, which The Telegraph called, “one of the most impressive sights of the comedy year”; while The Guardian declared it, “arena-level stand-up that asks us to think as well as laugh”.
Brand is something of a Renaissance man, as apart from comedy he is also a successful broadcaster, actor, author, podcaster, columnist, political commentator as well as a mental health and drug rehabilitation activist.
Tickets are from €34 and go on sale on Friday February 3 at 9am via Ticketmaster.
