POETS KEVIN Higgins, Fred Voss, David Betteridge, and Bob Starrett have poetry new collections from Culture Matters/Manifesto Press, which will be launched in Galway next week.
The Earth and the Stars in the Palm of Our Hand by Fred Voss, The Minister for Poetry Has Decreed by Kevin Higgins, and Slave Songs and Symphonies by David Betteridge and Bob Starrett, will be launched in Charlie Byrne's Bookshop, Middle Street, on Thursday December 8 at 6.30pm.
Fred Voss is an American metalworker and winner of the 2016 Joe Hill Labor Poetry Award. His new book examines the state of the American working class under deindustrialisation and globalisation. Betteridge and Starrett’s poems are infused with a sense of history, class struggle, and compassion for working people.
Speaking about his new collection, Kevin Higgins said: "In such a time of general political crisis, it seems frivolous to write only about one's personal despair and the laburnum tree across the road. There are some literary liberals who think the overtly political poems I've been writing are a sign I've lost my mind. Poor them."
All are welcome to the launch. The booklets are available from manifestopress.org.uk, www.morningstaronline.co.uk and usual outlets.
