United’s squad takes shape

More good news for Galway United’s recruitment drive ahead of the new season. The club has secured Irish u- 21 International Gary Breen from Hereford United.

The 19-years-old centre half, who has recently being capped for the Republic of Ireland, was a member of the Manchester City Youth team which reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2006.

Defender Seán Kelly has also joined United on loan from Cork City for the 2009 season. Kelly, a former player in the Arsenal youth academy, has played at a variety of under-age levels for the Republic of Ireland.

Irish u-21 International Jay O'Shea has been named team captain for the 2009 season with John Russell named as vice-captain.

Galway United Supporters’ Trust is running a bus to the premier division match against St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday March 6. The bus will leave from Fibber Magees, Eyre Square, at 3pm sharp. Seats can be booked by ringing Ronan Coleman 087-6972823, or Conor Holland at 087-2184132. GUST membership forms will be available outside Terryland Park before Friday evening’s match against Mervue United (7.45pm ). GUST will have a stand in Elverys Sports, Galway Retail Park, on Saturday from 12pm to 4pm where season tickets will be on sale.
