Polish Independence Day in Galway

Candlelit concert of Polish patriotic songs, folk paper cut-outs, workshops, demonstrations of scout skills, tasting of Polish cuisine, and other surprises. This is how Bardzo L adnie Foundation, in cooperation with the Polish Scouts in Galway intends to celebrate Polish Independence Day in Galway City Museum.

Independence Day is really special for every Pole. November 11 is a holiday of freedom, joy, and hope for the future.

To give the Poles living in Ireland a unique experience and also bring Polish tradition and history closer to Irish people, the organisers have planned a concert of patriotic songs, which is going to be a journey through the Polish history, starting from the days of slavery, through World War I, until the present day.

The concert including such flagship Polish songs as Rota, Legiony, and Mury by Jacek Kaczmarski will be held on November 11 at 06:00 pm in the courtyard of Galway City Museum. This wonderful occasion to celebrate will take place under the cover of the night, in the light of torches, and lanterns. Thanks to specially prepared songbooks with lyrics in Polish and English, audience would also participate in the event.

Watch out because it is not the end of celebrations On November 12 from 10am until 2pm in the building of Galway City Museum there will be an open free day for families. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in the folk paper cut-outs workshop and to admire Polish folk art. Furthermore, Polish scouts have prepared a special show of their skills, including knot tying. Children who come to the museum with their parents, will be able to design cotton bags with prints of famous Poles, such as Maria Sklodowska-Curie, Copernicus, and Frederic Chopin.

An additional attraction will be specially prepared for the occasion menu inspired by Polish cuisine in the popular restaurant The Kitchen.
