Due to demand this year for Saturday classes, CDA has launched an additional Saturday morning class ballet class for beginners.
Children are accepted from the age of four into Pre-Ballet class. The early syllabi teach the foundations of classical ballet, they are fun and include mime and imagery. After three to four years of ballet the first examination, Primary Grade is usually achieved. The grades then progress from one to eight, building technique and skill each year.
A new study has recently revealed that children in Ireland who participate in artistic or cultural activities such as drama, dancing, art or music cope better with schoolwork, watch less television, and have a more positive attitude towards school later in life.
Using data from the longitudinal Growing up in Ireland study, it examined arts and cultural participation among three, five and 13-year-olds and was carried out by the ESRI in conjunction with the Arts Council.
"The results of this study don’t surprise me, only confirm what I have always found to be true. The children and young people who continue with their ballet classes through second level education tend to be high achievers in school and consistently get high leaving cert results," said Phyllis Hayes, principal at CDA.
"Students of CDA work towards exams at graded and vocational level by British examining boards, the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. This year we will be hosting 3 exam sessions covering classical and modern dance genres."
The academy presents bi-annual shows in the Town Hall Theatre; all students are given the opportunity to take part in these wonderful performances. And every year in May, parents are invited into the studios for our in-house performances.
