Tower Poetry Slam Competition takes place this weekend

THE FIRST Tower Poetry Slam 2016 competition will be held in Thoor Ballylee, once the south Galway home of WB Yeats, with the event being MC'd by award winning Galway poets Elaine Feeney and Sarah Clancy.

The slam is on this Saturday from 7.30pm. Performance or ‘slam’ poetry is poetry delivered live on stage by its authors who have usually learned it off by heart. Thirteen poets will compete for a prize of €250, sponsored by Poetry Ireland, and the title of The Tower Slam Champion 2016. The poetry and performances will be judged by audience members selected at random.

There are still audience spaces remaining, but no more competition entries can be accepted. Transport is available via a specially hired bus, departing from in front of Jurys Hotel, at 6.30pm and returning there after the event. Tickets are €20 (bus and event ) and €10 (admission only ).
