Stacked in an alcove of the Augustinian Abbey at Annaghdown, are a group of beautiful sculpted heads from a lost mid-12th century doorway, but how did they end up there?
These stones have been a puzzle as they pre-date the abbey by as much as 40 years. However the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society Lecture wil attempt to answer this mystery at its next public meeting in the Galway Harbour Hotel on Monday October 10 at 8pm. The guest speaker, Dr Jessica Cooke, will deliver a lecture entitled, The Annaghdown Doorway and King Ruaidhri Ua Conchobair: Loyalty and Patronage in Twelfth-Century Connacht.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
