Dash for colour in Oughterard this Sunday

The most colourful event in Connemara this year, the Corribdale Colour Dash, takes place in Oughterard on Sunday (1.30pm ).

Marking the official opening of the newly-extended trails at Corribdale Park, the Colour Dash is a family fun-filled 3k run, jog, or walk to raise funds for lighting the new paths.

Local Olympian Mick Molloy is the special guest for the official opening which will take place at 1.30pm with the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Molloy ran in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, and despite altitude and running the final 12 miles in his bare feet, he finished in 41st place in a field of 74 starters.

The park, which now includes 1.8km of cycling and walking trails as well as outdoor fitness equipment, opened in July.

Participants in Sunday’s Colour Dash are covered head-to-toe in coloured powder as they race through eight dye zones on the route, which has been organised in conjunction with the sponsors of the recent park extension, Galway Wind Park developers SSE and Coillte, GWP main contractor Roadbridge, and local companies Killola Quarries, and Seamus McDonagh Plant Hire.

John O’Sullivan, the Galway Wind Park community liaison manager says the wind park team of SSE and Coillte are proud to be involved in such a fun and exciting family event.

“We’re looking forward to a great community day out to mark the opening of the wonderful walking trail facilities at Corribdale Park,” he says.

Liam Power from Roadbridge says the Colour Dash is a worthwhile local community event.

“It promises to be a great day. Roadbridge is proud to have been involved in realising this project as part of our ‘Community Engagement Initiative Policy.”

The Colour Dash will start from the Corribdale Park at 2pm after the official opening. The costs are €10 per adult, €5 per child, or €30 per family group. Registration for the event will open at the Boxing Club from 12.30pm or online at https://www.eventbrite.ie/ (search for Corribdale ).
