Concert to honour 1916 heroes at Clifden Arts Festival

New suite by leading Irish trad musician Charlie Lennon dedicated to the memory of all who died in the 1916 Rising

CHARLIE LENNON, one of Ireland's foremost fiddle players and trad musicians, will unveil his newly composed suite of music, in honour of the men and women of 1916, with a performance at this month's Clifden Arts Festival.

The suite is dedicated to the memory of all who died in the 1916 Rising, with specific reference to those who signed the Proclamation of the Republic. It will be performed in St Joseph’s Church, Clifden, at 8pm on Sunday September 18.

The suite will be performed by Ronan Browne on pipes, Caitlin Ní Gabann on concertina, the composer on piano, his daughter Éilís on fiddle, singer Muireann Nic Amhlaidh, and the RTE Con Tempo Quartet. Narration will be by historian and publisher Proinnsíos Ó Duigneáin.
