WE GET to enjoy comedy from many countries - England, Canada, the USA, Australia - but this is all from the Anglosphere, it is more rare we get to experience comedy from continental Europe.
However Galway will have just that chance when the award winning Danish comedian Sofie Hagen plays the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday October 25 and The Spiegeltent on Wednesday 26 as part of the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway.
Winner of 2015’s Best Newcomer award in Edinburgh, and described by The Guardian as "the funny face of Generation Overshare", nothing in Sofie’s world is off limits. She successfully mined her teenage obsession with Westlife in her triumphant debut show, Bubblewrap, and is refreshingly open and thankfully hilarious about topics such as body image, self-harm, and feminism.
Sofie’s assured, informed and deeply personal comedy has seen her in huge demand worldwide and led to appearances on Russell Howard’s Good News and The One Show. Her current show follows an equally autobiographical bent which has been drawing audible gasps from audiences lucky enough to see her combining confessional intimacy with laser-guided gags.
