Counting down to the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival

It is that time of year again and the countdown is on to the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival.

The festival is returning this September with an extended five-day event. Musicians, DJs, live bands, a beauty evening, artisan food fair, and a full day of children’s entertainment will feature at the 2016 Clarenbridge Oyster Festival, which will take place from September 7 - 11.

The festival welcomes an excellent array of performers to the stage including Johnny Cash Tribute band – Walk the line, Spring Break, and DJs Fergal Darcy and Louise Clarke, while The High Kings is the headline band on Saturday September 10.

Festival chairperson Peter Fitzgerald says this year’s festival will again celebrate the best that Clarenbridge and Galway has to offer, bringing the talented live bands, delights from the food fair, as well as the annual oyster eating competition.

"The festival belongs to the people of Clarenbridge as they welcome visitors from all over the world, near and far to the village for an expanded programme to accommodate new elements and new venues. The main marquee will be bigger and better this year providing the best in seafood and drinks for the visitors. The festival will start a new chapter this year."

Longstanding committee member Dearbhla Silke says the committee is delighted with the festival line up and especially glad to again have a number of sponsors on board.

"We are thrilled to have our main sponsors Guinness, C&C Gleeson drinks group, Wild Atlantic Way, Fáilte Ireland and Galway County Council, as well as new sponsors The Connacht Hotel, An Púcán, Paddy Burkes, Evoke.ie, and The Connacht Tribune. It is important to have our other key sponsors join us each year including Classic Hits 4FM, Galway Now, Q Beauty, Anthony Ryan’s, Vogue, Poppyseed, Donoghue Buses, Ward & Burke Engineers, Terryland Fruit and Veg, and Crystal Valet. Sponsors are so important and have made the festival what it is over the years. We are looking forward to working with them all making it the most successful Clarenbridge Oyster Festival to date."

Tickets are available for Friday September 9 and Saturday September 10 online at eventbrite.ie, Paddy Burkes, Vogue Hair Salon, and the post office in Clarenbridge. Go join locals and visitors kicking off autumn with an amazing line up of entertainment as well as fun for all the family.
