Keith Fallon of GCH and Damien O'Boyle of Craughwell AC are commencing athletics scholarships in the USA this month.

Fallon will attend Lamar College in Texas, and O'Boyle will head to McNeese College in Louisiana. Both Galwegians are aiming to use the opportunity to further their studies and athletics careers in the highly competitive US collegiate athletics system.

In other athletic news,the Craughwell AC marathon was held Saturday last and Aidan Hogan won in a time of 3hrs 6 mins. Arthur Potter won the half marathon in 1hr 33 mins. In Tullamore Matt Bidwell of Galway City Harriers secured a second place spot at the prestigious half marathon, clocking 72 minutes for the 13.1-mile distance

Fixtures

The Lust for Life 5k takes place at Ballybrit Racecourse on Saturday at 10am. Organised by Athletics Ireland, more than 500 runners have already signed up for the event which is on a similar course to the Galway 5km series route.

The Galway Cross country championships will take place over two days - the first on Sunday October 2 in Tuam at the Palace Grounds, where the adult and uneven ages juvenile races will take place. The second day is fixed for Sunday October9 when the even ages will take place, with venue to be confirmed.
