THE GREAT ConTempo Quartert will begin two very different concert series, starting in September - one will be family friendly and invovle collaboration with musicians working in other genres, the other is a set of monthly lunchtime shows performing Hayden.
3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music
MOZART, JAZZ fusion, and Irish trad are three kinds of music that will be heard across three Saturdays in the Galway City Museum, for the upcoming 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music concert series.
Starting this Saturday, these family friendly concerts will feature the ConTempo Quartet, joined by some of Ireland’s best young musicians in various genres. For the first concert, ConTempo will be joined by Lyric FM’s composer in residence, Sebastian Adams, performing a varied repertoire for viola; and Galway-based trad band, Cogar.
Further shows take place on September 10, and 17 at 11am. Admission is free. Early arrival is recommended.
Lunchtimes with ConTempo at St Nicholas’
HAYDEN'S OPUS 76 and 77 string quartets will be heard within St Nicholas' Collegiate Church over the coming months, in a series of lunchtime concerts with the ConTempo Quartet.
The series starts on Tuesday September 6, with ConTempo playing String Quartet Op 76, No 1, the first work in Haydn’s last complete set of string quartets, which the composer dedicated to the Hungarian count, Joseph Georg von Erdody.
The dates for the remaining concerts are October 4, November 1, December 6, February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, and June 6. Concerts run from 1.10pm to 1.50pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. Early arrival is recommended.
