Galway women star for Ireland

Galway WFC players were part of a successful outing for the Republic of Ireland senior women’s side against Wales in Caerphilly, South Wales, which finished with an all-Galway WFC back four. Vaptain Méabh De Búrca, along with debutantes Shauna Fox, Chloe Moloney and Sadhbh Doyle, helped Ireland to a 2-1 victory with the aid of two late goals from Arsenal’s Katie McCabe.

Galway WFC chairman Stephen Moran says the club was formed to help players make the international team.

"It provides local players from the west of Ireland with a stage to showcase their talents so they can represent their country at the highest level. In doing so, we are not forgetting the excellent coaching these girls received from their clubs prior to playing with Galway Women's FC.”

After a week break Galway WFC return to league action this weekend when they face Shelbourne in Morton Stadium. Manager Don O’Riordan will be hoping his side can continue their 100 per cent start to the season which sees them on top of the table with nine goals.
