Show us your peas, Galway

Cully & Sully, the popular food and soup company, has teamed up with Grow It Yourself to create a unique international community that grows food together from the confines of an office.

The food-growing challenge, dubbed ‘Give Peas A Chance’, is asking all foodies who work in an office environment to leave behind their ‘a la carte’ pasts, and dive head first into dining ‘al desko’.

Businesses across Ireland will document their ‘office patch’ on social media, and continually update followers with how their ‘growing wall’ is progressing, with pictures, videos, and watering routines.

“Along with Cully & Sully, we are big believers in the power of small food growing experiences to transform people’s attitude to food and health, and we’re delighted give people that opportunity,” said GIY founder Michael Kelly.

Along with growing edible office food, the initiative aims to help people understand where food comes from, and helps add some greenery to liven up the office blues.

In September, the winning team will receive €1,500 in vouchers for a visit to Ballymaloe House and Cookery School, and will also be granted a €3,000 community garden which they can donate to a local charity of choice.

Last year’s winner, Optimal Chiropractic, Cork, donated their garden to the Cork Association for Autism. The garden was installed earlier this year, and it has significant therapeutic benefits for the local community.

“We often talk to our patients about the need for a healthy lifestyle and the idea of growing your own food ties in with that,” said head chiropractor at Optimal Chiropractic, Ben Martin.

“We had the plants growing on our desks in the office and patients would ask about them.

“It was a great way of starting a conversation.”
