After having successful surgery for a back injury, Carmel Quinn knew she had no more excuses left for not addressing her life-long weight issue. So, when a friend suggested that they join a new slimming club in the area, she reluctantly agreed. In February 2012 she took the life-altering steps through the doors of Slimming World. It certainly was not what she was expecting.
When she heard from the friendly, warm, consultant about all the fabulous food she could still enjoy, she was hooked. “The weight loss plans I had tried before involved restriction and deprivation, not this one,” says Carmel, a mum of two. “Curry, lasagne, roast dinners, all my favourites are still on the menu,” she adds.
As the weight fell off she started to exercise, first walking and later running. “I used to envy people when I saw them out running, now I’m one of them. I only ever ran a bath before Slimming World!” she jokes.
Since losing 3.5 stones Carmel’s confidence has increased and she finds herself looking forward to dressing up for a night on the town. Buying clothes is no longer the chore it once was. Having maintained her weight loss for almost four years, Carmel couldn’t be happier and has never felt better.
“I just wish I knew about this years ago,” she says. “I’ve achieved my weight loss dream by changing the way I eat now I’d like to help others to do the same.”
