ANONYMOUS IS the title of the latest exhibition from County Galway artist Catherine Fleming, where the artist has been inspired to create new works based on a series of poems.
The 20-year-old from An Spidéal has been painting from a very young age, holding her first exhibition at 11 along with her aunt Rena Fleming in aid of the Burren Chernobyl Project. Since then she has had several exhibitions including three in the Providence Market kitchen and Gallery.
Speaking about the exhibition, Catherine told the Galway Advertiser, "I’ve called it Anonymous because I used five poems written by amateur poets as inspiration, and the poets are all left anonymous. The paintings are quite varied, the only link between them is that they are all based on a poem.
"Some of the poems are quite dark and this is reflected in the paintings, especially the painting 'Simple Pleasures'. For me personally, the poems are equally as important as the paintings and I have received very positive feedback on the poems as well as the paintings. There are also other paintings in this exhibition that aren’t part of Anonymous."
The exhibition is currently running at the Providence Market Kitchen, St Augustine Street.
