United manager Dunne expects signings next week

The Tribesmen suffered a disappointing 1-0 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division loss against Finn Harps at Ballybofey last Friday evening as Sean Houston’s second half strike was enough to earn the Donegal outfit three points. However summer reinforcements will arrive in the west soon, according to Dunne.

“We are looking at a few different possibilities at the moment,” Dunne confirmed. “It is a bit early to say what exactly will happen because we have a few weeks to go, but I expect to have a couple of players added by early next week.

“We are exploring a couple of options at the moment. We have been speaking to a couple of other League of Ireland clubs, while we’ve also had a few other guys in on trial so we could have a look at them.”

With the Cork City league fixture postponed due to the Leesiders’ European commitments, United had hoped to secure a friendly fixture this weekend. “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if we will be able to get a game because we would have liked one. With us having no games on a few weekends recently it can be tough on the players because they are just going from training session to training session.

“From that aspect, it can get a bit monotonous for them, training and training with no games. However, we know that the games will arrive thick and fast soon, so we have to be ready for that. The gaps allow us to do a mini pre-season of sorts.”

Dunne admits that the loss against Harps was a setback. “I don’t think there was a whole pile in the game to be honest, as we had played reasonably well up to a point. Still I don’t think that overall we did enough to win the match.

“In saying that, you could argue that they didn’t do a huge amount either. We were disappointing in the final third. We had a few, what I would call, half chances, but we didn’t take them.”

United host Wexford Youths at Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday July 22, a game that carries significance for the western club. “We try to win every game, we have to get ourselves right in every way,” is Dunne’s assessment.

“If you don’t have all the elements spot on you won’t be in a position to win matches. We need to concentrate on ourselves to make sure we are ready for the Wexford game. We will be doing everything we can to get a result in that game.

“We know that we won’t get a result unless we get a performance and we will be concentrating on doing that. We want to get back to the level we showed early on in the season.”
