Dan Deacon and his 'teeming crackpot electronica'

"Self-confessed pop weirdo" to play two nights at Róisín Dubh for GIAF 16

DAN DEACON is "a self-confessed pop weirdo who sits at the edge of pop and experimentation," according to The Guardian, who makes "teeming crackpot electronica" says The Times, and he plays Galway next week.

Deacon, the American electronic music composer, singer, and performer, plays the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday July 20 and Thursday 21, as part of the Galway International Arts Festival.

Inspired by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, Raymond Scott, and Conlon Nancarrow, Deacon studied electro-acoustic and computer music composition at Purchase College, New York, releasing his debut album Spiderman Of The Rings in 2007.

In 2012 he signed with Domino Records and released the acclaimed America. His most recent album, 2015's Gliss Riffer, has been called “an effervescent, ebullient record” by MOJO. He has toured with Arcade Fire and wrote a film score for Francis Ford Coppola.

Deacon is as celebrated for his live shows as he is for his music, often performing on floor level within the audience. Consequence of Sound described one concert as being like "transformed into another universe, a singular bubble where everything was free and colorful and cathartic, and everybody danced”.

LA Weekly said: “Deacon prides his shows on being unique communal experiences, and nothing about how the experimental electronic artist pushes fans to engage with his music and with one another would really surprise.”

Support is from Meltybrains? on Wednesday 20 and Snow Place Like Home on Thursday 21. Doors are at 8pm. For tickets contact www.roisindubh.net and www.giaf.ie
