Trad music titans GIAF 16 concert

Sean Smyth, Alan Kelly, Jim Murray and Jim Higgins @ Monroe's Live

Four of the leading lights of Irish trad - Sean Smyth, Alan Kelly, Jim Murray and Jim Higgins - will join forces for a Galway International Arts Festival concert next month.

Having been at the forefront of the Irish music scene for over 20 years, the four have performed in every corner of the globe as part of, or with, Lúnasa, Sharon Shannon, Christy Moore, Eddi Reader, De Danann, Altan and Riverdance.

Mayo fiddler Sean Smyth came to prominence with his acclaimed 1993 solo debut, The Blue Fiddle. Three years later he formed Lúnasa with Donogh Hennessy and Trevor Hutchinson.

Roscommon's Alan Kelly is widely regarded as the finest exponent of the piano accordion in Irish trad and is credited with single reviving it as a traditional instrument.

Renmore's Jim Higgins has been a member of The Stunning and The Saw Doctors, He now works with The Mairtín O’Connor Band, Altan, and Christy Moore.

Cork guitarist Jim Murray has toured and recorded with Sharon Shannon, and released two critically acclaimed albums with Seamus Begley.
