Galwaywoman who’s running in Great Ethiopian Run to hold Am-Am to benefit Midwives and Fistula Surgery project

A nine-hole Golf Open Am-Am will take place on Saturday June 18 at Glenlo Abbey Golf Club to benefit Ethiopiaid’s Midwives and Fistula Surgery projects

Angela Savage will take part in the 10k Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa in November to support this deserving charity and Gary Madden, Glenlo Abbey Golf Pro, is happy to facilitate the event. All proceeds will go to the charity and Angela will cover her own travel expenses.

Ethiopia has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world. In addition, there are about 10,000 new cases of fistula each year. A fistula is a hole between the birth canal and the bladder or rectum. It leaves a woman incontinent, humiliated and socially isolated. These women are the world’s modern-day lepers.

To improve the maternal healthcare and the safety of childbirth, Ethiopiaid Ireland has partnered with Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital where doctors and specialists come from all over the world to volunteer their services. Community Rehabilitation is also provided, helping women who have sustained childbirth injuries reintegrate into society.

If you would like to experience the beautifully remodelled Glenlo Abbey golf course, with its hundreds of newly-planted rhododendrons now in bloom, and also support a good cause, this is your chance. Lots of generous prizes have been sponsored.

This is a nine-hole stableford competition, with teams of four (ladies, gents or mixed ) with two scores to count on holes 1-8 and all scores on the final hole. Tee times: 7.30 am to 2.30 pm.

To reserve a tee-time, phone the Proshop at 091 519649 for teams individuals or teams of four.
