Clifden public library community exhibition tells forty three life stories

Clúid is inviting the public to visit the community exhibition in Clifden public library over the month of May to view a tapestry of 43 life stories.

43 older residents from Clúid Housing’s sheltered housing scheme in St Joseph’s Court have this month launched a very special community exhibition at Clifden public library.

To mark the opening of Bealtaine 2016, there was a truly impressive exhibition of a 7’ x 7’ tapestry depicting the life stories of 43 older residents who combined efforts to produce this tapestry over six months. Under the guidance of a project coordinator and a needle craft worker, residents turned their life stories into individual works of art through patchwork, embroidery, applique, quilting and fabric painting.

Clúid’s housing officer Kathleen Aspell Mortimer said: “This story is one of impressive commitment, teamwork and community spirit. This project became a focus for this community and enabled them to work closely together, making lasting friendships and creating a sense of camaraderie. This is what Bealtaine is all about!”

The exhibition will remain on display at Clifden public library, Market Street, Clifden for the rest of May and members of the public are welcome to drop in to view this fabulous work of art.
