IRISH FOLK band Black Bank Folk - the musicians who make up Damien Dempsey's band - will perform their debut album, Rising, at Monroe’s Live on Friday May 20 at 9pm.
Black Bank Folk mix elements of country and indie, into their take on Irish folk. The idea for the album, Rising, came from band members John Colbert and James Sheeran. John was interested in his great uncle Con Colbert’s role in the 1916 Rising. The album delves into the human stories of the revolution, exploring themes of suppression, love, bravery, disillusionment and the shifting realities for those affected by the fight.
Hot Press has called the album "superior folk-rock with an historical message. A hugely rewarding listen." The Irish Times praised the band for having "come up with a novel way to commemorate the events of 1916 by unearthing the lesser known stories and setting them to music".
