The Academic - all ages and evening shows

THE ACADEMIC, the Westmeath band who play "well thought out, clever and catchy tunes," according to Goldenplec, and whose debut single 'Different' was nominated for the Choice Music Prize, play the Róisín Dubh.

The band play two shows on Saturday May 21 - an all ages show at 3pm and an over 18s show at 8pm. The band have enjoyed critical acclaim for what Nialler9 calls their "tightly-played three-minute indie-rock pop", while Lauren Murphy in The Irish Times said: "It’s time to jump on the bandwagon, these guys are going to be big".

'Different' made it appear as if the band had arrived out of nowhere, but as lead singer Craig Fitzgerald says: “It might seem we have just come out of the woodwork, but we have played in every corner of the country to anybody who would listen to or anybody who was forced to listen."

Since then, the band have released two singles, most recently 'Northern  Boy', and the EP Loose Friends, supported The Strokes and Noel Gallagher, and enjoyed airplay from the BBC.

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
