Fallon fastest in Loughrea 5k

Many of Galway's top athletes were on show in the Loughrea AC hosted Easter Monday 5km.

Run over a fast two lap circuit around the town, the race provided Irish international Keith Fallon with a fast 15.57 run, taking victory ahead of Craughwell’s Peadar Harvey who ran 16.22. Mullingar Harriers' Andrew Nevin finished in third.

There were good runs also for schools' international Eanna Folan and the resurgent Stephen Casserly of Castlegar AC.

The first woman home was local runner Caroline Whiriskey of Loughrea AC who ran 19.46, with Colette Glennon second home in 20.10. The first wheelchair athlete home was Shauna Bocquet of Craughwell AC in an excellent time of 16.38.

Colemanstown 10km

There were wins for Paul Conlon and Jane Ann Meehan in Easter Saturday’s Colemanstown 10km. The sixth running of the event saw Conlon pip Mark Walsh of Leevale AC by just seven seconds to take the honours in a time of 36.11 to Walsh's 36.18.

Meehan, of Athenry AC, ran a personal best of 36.35 - the same time as third-placed man Gearoid Rohan. The talented Athenry athlete is in superb form ahead of her upcoming marathon in Manchester, which takes place on April 10. The second woman home was Sharon Grant, followed by Deirdre Grady of Athenry AC. More than 200 competed on the day with Cancer Care West benefitting from the event.

Fixtures

The New Inn 5k will be held Sunday next April 3 at 1pm in the east Galway village.
