THE SHAKER Hymn play the "kind of proud, unashamedly guitar-driven record debut that would once have been pounced on by an enlightened imprint such as Creation or Go! Discs”.
So said Record Collector about the Cork indie-rock band who play a free gig at Strange Brew in the Róisín Dubh on Thursday April 7 at 10.30pm. Further praise has come from 2FM's Dan Hegarty, who said their songs have "a huge amount of depth and maturity", while RTÉ's Niall Carver said: "Super band with top drawer songs. Believe the hype."
The band released their debut album, Rascal's Antique, on their own Heavy Noids Records label. Mixed by Christian Best (Mick Flannery, O Emperor ), it ranges from garage rock to deceptively hard-edge, Byrds like, power pop. In late 2015, they released the singles 'Trophy Child' and 'Sucking It Out', both of which will be included on the band's new album, Do You Think You're Clever? The album will be released on Friday.
