Young Galway musicians are put to the test in youth music competition

YOUNG GALWAY musicians will be among the finalists in this year's Irish Youth Music Awards, which takes place in Dublin next month. The Irish Youth Music Awards is a competition where teams and youth centres from all over Ireland pick a representing act and an original song.

Each county holds a selection heat where young people perform and are all given a vote on the representing act/best original song that will perform in the final. Galway's representing act is a young four-piece band called JANAJ. Each and every member is incredibly talented. The band consist of vocals, piano, guitar, drums and bass. The band will be performing their own version of Galway's Best Original Song winner 'Sun Will Shine' by Conor King and Jack Sinnott, along with the band's own original song 'Rulers' in the Aviva Stadium on April 16.

The IYMAs is an unusual competition in that 50 per cent of the marks in the final competition is for team effort in promoting the representing act, and everyone who participated in the selection heat, organised by Youth Work Ireland Galway, is part of this team effort. Team Galway consists of 17 dedicated and hard-working members who have been working diligently on the project since January.

The team held a preparation gig in the Roisín Dubh on March 13 to a great turnout, with all the bands and solo acts participating as a part of team Galway showing their talents on stage.

The Irish Youth Music Awards will take place in the Aviva Stadium on April 16. Tickets are €20 each through youthworkireland.ie or at the door on the day. Everyone from team Galway would really appreciate the support.

If you cannot make it to the Aviva you can show your support to team Galway by liking the Team Galway Facebook page — search for Irish Youth Music Awards Galway 2016.
