Sean Breathnach competed for Ireland at the European Throws Cup in Arad, Romania on Sunday.
Breathnach threw an outdoor shot putt personal best of 18.22 metres, placing him seventh of 15 in the highly competitive field of internationals. His next target is the national masters indoors next Sunday where he will look to extend his record breaking run of form.
At home the National Juvenile Indoor Championships took place at Athlone IT with many Galway athletes winning medals in a highly competitive programme of events over two days.
It was a brotherly double for GCH’s Daragh and Eoghan Jennings, with Daragh winning the U12 shot putt, and Eoghan third in the U15 pole vault with a height of 2.10m.
GCH sprinters won a large haul of medals. Cillin Greene took gold in the U19 200m in 21.90, Jack Dempsey bronze in the U18 200m, and Nicole King bronze in the U19 200m.
Evan Hallinan of Craughwell AC won gold in the U12 high jump, leaping 1.25 metres, while club mate Daniel Callanan Forde took silver in the U17 long jump with 6.15m. Craughwell's Conor Hoade also won silver, in the U13 60m hurdles.
Maeve Ford of Corrib AC secured a fine bronze in the U14 Girls 1k Walk in a time of 6.04, while Chloe Casey of Loughrea AC was the silver medal winner in the U15 shot putt, and clubmate Brendan Lynch won bronze in the U19 60m hurdles. Jerry Keary of Craughwell won silver in the U17 high jump with a leap of 1.89m, and Bryan Ndego of Galway City Harriers took bronze in the U18 high jump with a huge 1.95m clearance.
Abbey 10k
Damien Larkin of Craughwell AC took victory ahead of some 200 finishers at the recent Abbey 10km, clocking 35.44 for victory. Second home was Daire Comer of GCH, with Kieran Mclearn in third. Yvonne Fehily was the first woman in a good time of 41.32, with the returning Caroline Whiriskey of Loughrea AC second.
Fixtures
The 2016 Galway AAI 10 Mile Road Race Championships will take place in conjunction with the Craughwell 10 Mile road race on Sunday. Entry is available still on active.com All Galway clubs are encouraged to ensure they have teams of women and men competing in this fabulous event, which is the main club race for Craughwell AC. Galway AAI will produce the County Championship result and medals will be assigned.
