Act now and take up the challenge for meningitis

Renville Park in Oranmore will be buzzing with athletic activity on April 3 when ACT for Meningitis hosts the exciting annual sporting event "Remembering Aoibhe Renville Challenge” 2016.

The event includes a 5k time-chipped run/walk and an exciting 3k/16k/3k duathlon, in Renville Park in Oranmore.

The “Remembering Aoibhe Renville Challenge” is being held on the eve of the eighth anniversary of Aoibhe Carroll, the daughter of ACT founders Siobhan and Noel Carroll who sadly lost her life at just four years of age to meningitis in 2008. ACT says it is also a chance for everyone who has lost loved ones to take on a personal challenge in their memory.

The 5k run/walk is a fully-time chipped and certified route from Renville Park which begins at 11am. The second challenge of the day is the duatlon supported by Predator Triathlon Club, a 3k run followed by a 16k cycle and ends with another 3k run. Kicking off at 3pm with pre-registration from 1pm to 2.30pm at the Galway Bay Golf Resort. This can be entered by individuals (€30 ) or as a relay team of two (€40 ). Limited places are still available for this race.

Participants can take part in one or both events, and thanks to sponsors, DFS & Co Accountants Galway and Educogym Galway, every cent of the registration fee goes directly to the charity to enable it to continue to support anyone in Ireland affected by meningitis while raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of this life-changing disease.

Post-race refreshment will be served at the hotel. Limited parking facilities are available at the GalwayBay Golf Resort for the 5k but will close at 10.20am to allow for set up.

Registration for both races is at www.runireland.com For further information see www.facebook.com/rememberingaoibhe, email Dawn at [email protected] or call 091 380058.
