THE DRIFTWOOD Manor, the Galway-Westmeath folk ensemble centred around the brilliant songwriter Eddie Keenan, have just released their new single 'Fraction Of A Wolf', and next month, they will headline the Citóg night at the Róisín Dubh.
'Fraction Of A Wolf' is from the band's forthcoming album, For The Moon - to be released in June - and this slow, meditative, atmospheric number showcases much of what is great about Eddie's songwriting. He is steeped in the records of 1970s' Irish and British folk, but more importantly, he is animated by their creative spirit, learning from it so he can move forward with his own creativity, and in the process producing something both recognisably folk and recognisably his own.
The band have released three albums and six EPs since 2008 on a number of independent labels and were voted in The Irish Times' Breakthrough Acts of the Year for 2011 following the release of their second album The Same Figure (Leaving ). In 2014, the band played Electric Picnic and The Bath Folk Festival, while their album, Of The Storm, enjoyed airplay on BBC Radio 3 and was voted in the Folk Radio UK Albums of the Year. Last year, the Manor returned to Electric Picnic, and also played Knockanstockan.
