Galway WFC produced a four-goal rout over Cork City on Saturday night in Eamonn Deacy Park, putting then three points clear at the top of the Continental Tyres Women’s National League.
The emphatic victory began with the first goal from Chloe Moloney on 22 minutes when she rose highest to head home a Lynsey McKey corner. On 36 minutes referee Thomas Oates pointed to the spot for a handball and Therese Hartley made no mistake with the penalty to make it 2-0.
Galway and the expectant crowd had to wait until 68 minutes for the third goal when Elle Rose O’Flaherty twisted and turned in the box before blasting home following a Jess Nolan cross.
McKey herself rounded off the scoring in the final minute of play, finishing Ashlinn Meaney’s cross to make it 4-0. Meaney's exquisite work down the right in the build-up to the goal was a cameo of her overall performance on the night which won her the Continental Tyres Player of the Match award.
