DNG Maxwell Heaslip and Leonard tops polls with its election day auction

While most of the country was caught up with voting in the General Election, last Friday saw DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard hold the first of its 2016 auctions, and as usual the company had a successful day with 10 of the 16 lots selling in a busy afternoon in the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The auction room was a hive of activity prior to the beginning of the proceedings, with a large turnout of potential buyers keen to take advantage of the attractive array of properties on offer. Being the first the auction in the west of Ireland this year, the team in DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard were keen to start the year on the right foot and to continue on from their hugely successful 2015. Indeed all those in attendance on Friday will testify that the event was up to the Galway city based agency’s usual high standards of professionalism.

As always, the vastly experienced auctioneer James Heaslip conducted proceedings and kept the lots moving swiftly along, with his usual energy and enthusiasm. The opening lot of the afternoon was No 3 Oat Gallery in Ballinasloe, which was brought to the market with an AMV of €18,000, and as soon as Heaslip asked for the opening offer, the bidding was fast and furious among three separate parties, with the lot eventually selling for €42,000.

Lot no 2 was No 60 Lower Salthill, a terraced commercial building with a guide price of €180,000. James Heaslip had to work a little to get an opening bid, but it did not take long for those interested to get warmed up, and after a some frantic action by four different bidders, the hammer eventually fell at €227,000.

Lot no 3, No 36 Bart Taoide, Dock Street, with an AMV of €170,000, continued in the same vein and was eventually knocked down at €229,000.

In total 10 of the lots fell under the hammer on the auction floor, with two more being sold after the auction and three of the remaining lots currently under negotiation.

Mairead Leonard, who heads the auction team, was delighted with the outcome of the auction. “We are extremely happy with our afternoon's work," she said. "Every one of the lots that sold on the auction floor exceeded expectations and our team continued to work hard, long after the last person left the auction room, to ensure that we sold the other lots that were previously withdrawn. Many of the buyers felt they got fair value and we are pleased to get that type of feedback, however all of our vendors were very happy with the outcome and they are the ones we are really out to satisfy.

“We are now fully focused on our next auction date of April 29 next, with over 20 lots already confirmed, covering all areas of the west of Ireland," she added. "We constantly strive for excellence and our auctions are now widely recognised as being the slickest, most professional, of the kind throughout Ireland – this is something we are hugely proud of.”

DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard is now taking entries for its April 29 auction, which will launch in mid March. Full details are available by contacting any of the team at 091 565261.
