A QUARTET of the some of the finest underground metal and dark ambient acts in Ireland - The Bogs Of Aughiska, Soothsayer, Corr Mhóna, and Weed Priest - will gather upstairs in the Róisín Dubh this Saturday from 8pm.
Eerie, atmospheric, rumblings, like some terrifying fusion of dark ambient and black metal, From The Bogs Of Aughiska are a west of Ireland whose music draws inspiration from the Irish landscape, history, culture. FTBOA have the reputation as a fierce live act and have played Inferno Festival (Norway ), Mayhemisphere (Iceland ), Amifest (Portugal ), and Incineration (UK ), as well as supporting Ulver, Dragged Into Sunlight, Downfall of Gia, and Zatokrev.
Formed from the ashes of DoomNoise merchants Íweriú, Soothsayer deliver music with a blackened, doomladen atmosphere, as evidenced by their demo recording The Soothsayer.
Cork band Corr Mhóna sing entirely as Gaeilge, while their music fuses elements of doom and death metal. They released their debut EP Corrguíneacht in 2010, and released their debut album Dair in 2014, which enjoyed many positive reviews. The band's second album is due out this summer. They have played across Ireland and Britain with Solstice, Mael Mórdha, The Wounded Kings, For Ruin, Sirocco, Old Corpse Road and Brigantia.
If there was a musical sound to denote heavy, dense, flows of molten lava, slowly burning everything under its wake, then Weed Priest play it. The band's dense, heavy, stoner rock and doom vibes, worship at the dark altar of Tony Iommi and Black Sabbath, not that the Galwegians are Sabbath clones. As their various releases attest, they have plenty of their own ideas to illustrate they are their own men.
The show is to mark the fifth birthday of The Irish Metal Archive and is in association with FEAST and Hexen Haus Promotions. Admission is €5.
