US orchestra to give charity concert for Jigsaw

THE LINCOLN Youth Symphony will perform a concert at St Nicholas Collegiate Church on Saturday March 5 at 1pm, with a programme featuring Copland, Bach, Faure, and Irish composer William Balfe.

The 35-strong orchestra from Nebraska, whose members are aged between 14 to 21, will visit Galway as part of an eight-day tour to Ireland. This concert series will also mark their debut concerts outside the USA.

The concert is also a fundraiser for Jigsaw, the Galway charity which supports those aged between 15 and 21 in Galway city and county who are experiencing mental health difficulties. "We are delighted to be supporting Jigsaw with our concert," said Clark Potter, the orchestra’s director. "Many young people are under huge pressure these days. Music is one of the best ways of helping to relieve stress, whether you play, sing or listen. It can enrich your life and help take your worries away."

Admission is free, but a suggested donation of €5 is encouraged.
