PARENTAL NEGLECT, eating disorders, but also first romances, lazy summers, and whispered secrets will be explored in Swedish film My Skinny Sister, which will be screened by the Galway Film Society this weekend.
Katja is a talented figure skater and is always busy with school or training. She gets all the attention from her parents, unlike younger sister Stella, but it is Stella who notices something is wrong, and it is she who discovers Katja is suffering from a disorder that could kill her. Will Katja’s illness drive the family to the brink of despair or ultimately bring them closer together?
My Skinny Sister won Best International First Feature at the 2015 Galway Film Fleadh; the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at the 2015 Goteborg Film Festival; and the Best Screenplay and Special Audience awards at the 2015 Festival del Cinema Europeo. See it in the Town Hall Theatre this Sunday at 8pm. Tickets are available through 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
