THE ACCLAIMED Galway folk, roots, and Americana trio, The Whileaways, will play the first Show Up and Show Off, a new concert series at the Foróige Galway City Youth Café on The Fairgreen.
The Whileaways - singer-songwriters Noriana Kennedy, Nicola Joyce, and Noelie McDonnell - play on Saturday February 13. They will play songs from their most recent album, Saltwater Kisses, and their 2012 self titled debut.
The gigs are hosted by the Galway Youth Arts Alliance in the Foróige Youth Café, one Saturday a month between January and June. There will be a one hour open mic session at 7pm. Young people are welcome to perform in the art form of his/her choosing. The second hour features a performance by a guest artist/band.
Other gigs in the series are Colm and Kelly Gannon, Pádraig Ó Dubhghaill, and Cloidhna Flannery (Seachtain na Gaeilge, March 13 ); Patricia Forde and Soibhan Parkinson, Ireland’s first literature laureate for young people (April 23, as part of Cúirt ); trad fiddlers Liz and Yvonne Kane (May 14 ); and the Scottish Kinlochard Ceilidh Band (June 18, for the Galway Sessions festival ).
This series is intended for secondary school students their families and their friends. Tickets are €5 from Opus II, High Street, and on the door.
