MUSIC BY Schubert, Boccherini and Dohnanyi will be heard when the ensemble Musici Ireland play the Hotel Meyrick’s Oyster Bar on Thursday February 11 at 1.05pm.
Musici Ireland was formed in 2012 by its artistic director and principal violist, Beth McNinch, to create a platform for herself and her friends to perform chamber music, following her belief that there was a gap in the market for an ensemble of this type in Ireland. Musici Ireland perform in formations from duo to chamber orchestra size, which allows it to programme unusual concerts in venues of any size.
For the Galway show Beth will be joined by the leader of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, British violinist, Helena Wood, and by Irish cellist Gráinne Hope. They will perform string trios by Schubert and Boccherini and a Serenade for Strings by Hungarian composer Dohnanyi.
The concert is the first of the Music For Galway SAP Lunchtime Series for 2016. It will run for about 50 minutes. Admission is €5. A concert/lunch combo is €12. Pre-booking is essential, as spaces are limited, through 091 705962 or [email protected].
