Opel celebrates host of awards in 2015

Opel has been celebrating a great year with many awards added to its trophy cabinet. Here in Ireland, the Irish Motoring Writers' Association voted the Corsa as the Continental Irish Small Car of the Year 2016.

And right at the beginning of the year, the Opel Zafira Tourer 1.6 CNG led the way for the influx of awards in 2015 when it was named most environmentally friendly van by the environmental institue Ökotrend – for the third time in a row (combined fuel consumption and CO2emissions: 4.7kg/7.2 m3 H-Gas per 100km, 129g/km ).

Last week, it even captured its fourth consecutive title. But Opel says the versatile natural gas MPV was just the harbinger of a multitude of prizes.

For the second year in a row, the ADAM won the respected trade magazine Auto motor und sport Readers’ Choice Award - the The Best Cars in the mini-car category; hard on the heels of this followed the Blogger Auto Award 2015. And Opel points to its exemplary residual values, the Opel ADAM and Zafira Tourer both took the number one spot in their category in the Value Champion 2015 awards granted by Auto Bild und the independent service provider Schwacke.

Readers of the consumer magazine Guter Rat and the magazine Superillu named the Opel Corsa the Most Sensible Car 2015.

The new Corsa also won the Car of the Year Award in Romania, Greece and Serbia – just one example of the many national awards the Corsa collected around Europe.

And transnationally, it was awarded the internationally renowned prize Best Buy Car of Europe for 2015 by the AutoBest expert jury.

Trade magazine Firmenauto and independent service provider DEKRA once again named the Mokka as their Company Car of the Year.

And Opel’s light commercial vehicles again proved to be compelling, with the Movano and Vivaro winning prizes including the Plus X Award.

They captured the coveted innovation title in different categories, as did the newly introduced Opel KARL and Zafira Tourer. This means Opel has been the “Most Innovative Brand” at the Plus X Award since 2012. In Austria, the Opel Vivaro was named Fleet Car of the Year, while the VerkehrsRundschau and Trucker-tested Movano was Green Van 2015 as well as the defects dwarf in the DEKRA Used Car Report, where it won the transporter class.

Auto motor und sport also handed the sporty ADAM S (combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: 5.9 l/100 km, 139 g/km ) the Autonis Award.

The brand-new Astra was the highlight of Opel’s year and of the brand’s awards collection.

Opel’s compact class bestseller swept the scene across Europe, also winning national Car of the Year, Best Choice and Family Car titles – and ultimately the Golden Steering Wheel 2015 from Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag. Opel’s youngest compact class generation is lighter and more dynamic while featuring state-of-the-art technologies. For example IntelliLux LED®: the AUTOBEST jury awarded Opel the SAFETYBEST 2015 prize for the adaptive LED matrix light.

Another example is OnStar: in the spring, Auto Bild and Computer Bild recognized the trendsetting technology with the Connected Car and Pioneer Award; in the UK, the personal connectivity and service assistant received the Auto Express Technology Award and the Business Car Techies Award.
