Irish debut for Dutch baritone Henk Neven

THE IRISH debut of Dutch baritone Henk Neven takes place in NUI Galway's Aula Maxima on Thursday February 4 at 8pm, where he will perform songs by Mendelssohn, Schuman, Ibert, and Ravel.

Neven, who will be accompanied by Hans Eijsackers, is one of the most exciting song interpreters of his generation. A recipient of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, he has released a number of critically acclaimed albums. He was a member of the prestigious BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme and in 2011 received the Dutch Music Prize - the highest honour the Netherlands Ministry of Culture awards to classical musicians. He is a regular guest of the Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and at the NTR ZaterdagMatinee series.

The programme includes Mendelssohn’s 'On Wings Of Song', which has given its name to this year's MFG concert season theme. There will also be performances of Schumann’s Liederkreis Op 24, the seldom heard 'Songs of Don Quixote', Spanish songs by Jacques Ibert, and three songs by Maurice Ravel.
