A US film that criticises capitalism

Galway Film Society to screen 99 Homes

CAPITALISM SEEMS not so much a preferred approach to economics in the USA, more a religion, a sacred, unquestionable practice. All the more interesting then that it is American which has produced a film like 99 Homes.

99 Homes, a searing critique of capitalism as it functions in present-day American real estate, and will be screened by the Galway Film Society this Sunday at 8pm in the Town Hall Theatre.

Described as "a tough, muscular, idealistic drama that packs a mighty punch", by The Guardian, it focuses on Dennis (Andrew Garfield ), who has fallen behind on his mortgage payments due to lack of work. Desperate to keep the home he shares with his mother and son, his last-ditch attempt with the court system fails, and the family is tossed out by fast-talking bank representative Rick (Michael Shannon ). In a surprising turn of events, Nash finds himself accepting a job as one of Carver’s flunkies and thus enters a morass of moral ambiguity.

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
