Stomptown Brass - urban street-funk

Band to play Monroe's Live as part of Irish tour promoting new EP

STOMPTOWN BRASS play Monroe's Live this Saturday as part of the band's current Irish tour in advance of the launch of its debut EP, Locomotive, to be released in on February 12.

Playing a style of music that mixes the jazz of New Orleans with urban street-funk, the nine-piece band, formed by composer/arranger James O'Leary, have also won acclaim for their live shows which fuse raw energy with complex musical arrangements.

The Locomotive EP features four tracks, three originals - 'Locomotive', which culminates in a funky dancehall disco beat; 'My Duchess Has a Heart of Gold', featuring a military style vocal call and response; 'Fury', inspired by a famous Gregorian chant, 'Dies Irae (Day of Wrath )'; and Brendan Behan's 'The Auld Triangle', arranged as a funeral dirge which eventually breaks into a jazzy, swing-time street party rendition.
