MATTHEW E WHITE, the Virginia singer-songwriter, whose blue eyed soul draws on the American South's Memphis and Stax soul traditions, as well as the songs of Randy Newman, returns to the Róisín Dubh.
White and his Spacebomb band play the Dominick Street venue on Wednesday January 20 at 9pm as part of their current British and Irish tour. The gig's set list will be drawn from White's marvellous 2012 debut album Big Inner, described as "one of the great albums of modern Americana" by Uncut; 2013's Outer Face EP; and 2015's Fresh Blood album, which Pitchfork said is "fully engaged in the notion of music as a higher ground".
The Virginian is not a soul shouter, but delivers his lyrics in a comforting, avuncular kind of conversational singing style. He has played major festivals, such as Glastonbury and Primavera, and earned rave reviews from The Guardian and Consequence of Sound.
Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
