ASIF KAPADIA, the director of Amy, the critically and commercially successful documentary on the life of singer Amy Winehouse, will attend Talking Documentary, the Galway Film Centre’s annual Film and TV seminar.
Mr Kapadia, will be interviewed about his work by documentary filmmaker Pat Collins on Saturday January 16. Amy has been longlisted for the Oscars, while last month it won Best European Documentary at the European Film Awards.
The seminar's other special guest will be Sean McAllister, whose film A Syrian Love Story, won the Grand Jury Prize at Sheffield DocFest this year. The seminar opens with a screening of A Syrian Love Story at An Taibhdhearc on Thursday 14 at 8pm, with Mr McAllister attending. Mr McAllister will also give a public interview on the Saturday, about his approach to his work as a self–shooting, observational documentary maker, by GMIT Film and Documentary lecturer, Felim McDermott.
Other events over the two days will include 'The Do’s and Don’ts of Pitching' and 'The European Documentary Landscape' with Paul Pauwels, director of the European Documentary Network. On Friday 15 there will be a panel discusssion with Keith Potter, Ken Wardrop and Daisy Asquith, chaired by Ross Whitaker. Director Richard Curson Smith will be interviewed by documentary filmmaker, Paula Kehoe about documenting the arts, on the Saturday.
