Show Me The Funny - return of the New Year laughs

Competition to find Ireland's new comedy star returns for 2016

THE JANUARY blues will be banished with laughter when Show Me The Funny, and annual competition to find Ireland's next emerging comedy star, returns to The Kings Head on Monday January 11.

Now in its sixth year, the competition has unearthed a host of comedy talent, with previous winners, Steve Bennet (2014 ), Danny Ryan (2015 ) and Niamh Marron (2012 ) establishing themselves on the Irish and British circuit, while beaten finalists like Al Porter (2013 ) and Republic Of Telly presenter Kevin McGahern (2011 ), have gone on to great things.

Monday's show is the first of six heats and the special guest is Republic of Telly's Fred Cooke. Eight comics will have eight minutes of stage time. Judging is from the audience on the night. Winners will progress to the grand final, with the overall winner appearing at the Electric Picnic comedy tent. Two runners-up will win slots at the Forbidden Fruit Festival and the Galway Vodafone Comedy Carnival.

Doors are 8pm. Tickets are €5 and include a free pint of Bulmers.
