Galway key part of Phenox’s global expansion

German company phenox GmbH is to establish a medical device manufacturing facility in Galway, creating up to 65 jobs over five years.The development is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.phenox Ireland Ltd. will manufacture interventional neurovascular medical devices for the treatment of aneurysms and stroke.

The company’s products are used by endovascular specialists for the interventional treatment of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and include mechanical thrombectomy devices, flow diverters and bifurcation aneurysm implants as well as access and support devices.

The company is locating its new facility at the Kamrick Court Building in Ballybrit Business Park, Galway and will complete a customised fit-out to enable the commencement of operations in early 2016. The Galway facility will significantly enhance the company’s existing product development and manufacturing location in Bochum.Speaking at the announcement in Galway this week, Minister Bruton said: “Life sciences is a key sector which we have targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and over the past four years we have put in place a range of measures to support jobs growth in this area, including the establishment of a national health innovation hub to support the growth of Irish companies in this area.

“The announcement that phenox, a leading German manufacturing company in this area, is establishing a new facility in Galway and creating 65 jobs is an important boost for the West. We will continue to work hard to attract further investments from companies like this in the West in the coming years”.Dr.-Ing.
