The Galway City Council has given a strong commitment to operate a park and ride service during the stop over of the Volvo Ocean Race in late May and early June.
The commitment follows on going meetings between Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael J Crowe, chair of the Galway City Transportation Committee and city council director of services Ciarán Hayes. Discussions are also on going with the organisers of the Galway stopover of the race.
Cllr Crowe said a park and ride scheme for when the ocean race comes to town would be welcomed by the public.
“I am hopeful it will operate along similar lines and at a similar price to the Christmas service but these details have yet to be ironed out,” he said. “Around 9,112 passengers used that scheme and the public response was very positive.”
