ENTHUSIASTS FOR Irish language novels will have the chance to meet authors Micheál Ó Conghaile, Jackie Mac Donncha, and Réaltán Ní Leannáin at Sliocht, a new event to bring authors and readers face to face.
Sliocht, organised by publishers Cló Iar-Chonnacht, in association with Club Áras na nGael, Dominick Street, takes place in Club Áras on Wednesday November 4 at 8pm.
Originally from Inis Treabhair, Connemara, Ó Conghaile is the author and the founder of Cló Iar-Chonnacht. He established the company in 1085 while still a student at UCG. Since then, it has published more than 600 books and released 300 trad music albums. Ó Conghaile has a string of awards to his name, including the Hennessy Young Irish Writer of the Year Award. At Sliocht he will read from his new short story collection, Diabhlaíocht Dé.
MacDonncha, from Cill Chiaráin, Connemara, initially wrote as a pastime, until Cló Iar-Chonnacht published his first collection of poetry, Gaineamh Séidte, in 2003. He went on to publish a novella Aileach (2010 ) and a collection of short stories, Bróga Johnny Thomáis (2013 ).
Ní Leannáin lives in Dublin, but is originally from Belfast. Dílis, which was published this month, is her first collection of short stories. The title story won a prize in Comórtas Liam Mhic Uistín in 2013. Her story ‘Clic’ won first place in the 2014 Comórtas Gearrscéalaíochta Uí Mháine.
Admission is free. There will be an open session after each short reading in which the audience will be invited to discuss the work.
